About my work and process
Driven by inner growth as a human in this intriguing world, I create expressive and energizing abstract paintings, mostly colourful and characterized by movement.
I work from intuition, not using my personal emotions, ego or trauma as a guide, but rather opening up to non-material cosmic energies and atmospheres which, normally, might be sensed, but are otherwise invisible to the human eye. By play, curiosity and a clear intention, I invite these to reveal and anchor themselves. Once the invitation gets accepted, I remain open and present, shaping the visual form that seeks to be expressed. As I start without predetermined expectations of the result, every finished painting is completely unique and surprising. Even to me.
I love working with acrylics and mixed media, creating both small works on paper and larger scale canvases up to 120 cm.
Acrylics suit my process best. Each painting forms by layering, with each layer leaving the previous one partially uncovered. This way small windows provide a glance to deeper layers of the painting.
My art is not about technical perfection, but I strive for perfection in how an energy or atmosphere should be visualized for the human viewer to be able to process and experience it. I would love my art to have a significant meaning to the viewer, in order to support reflection, healing and inner growth.
In contrast to practicing science, which forms my educational background, my art making practice teaches me acceptance of the unpredictable, letting go of control and the courage to jump into the unknown.
About me
I am an abstract painter based in The Netherlands, where I live together with my partner, young daughter and multiple pets. Even though creativity found its way in many forms throughout my life, my youth mostly focussed on intellectual development and discipline, with little space for emotional expression.
During my early adulthood and after completing a scientific education in biomedical sciences, I combined my curiosity, enthusiasm and resilience to further develop my passion for creating art. I eventually found the skills to sense and express subtle sensations. My art is currently finding its way into the world and I am very grateful for that.
